Tradewinds Caravans is the latest release in Sandlot Games popular Tradewinds Series. Unlike its predecessors, instead of travelling the seas by boat, you ride across the land with a caravan of camels and horses. The game takes place on Silk Road, an ancient trade route from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to China.

Set in the Middle East, the characters, music and gameplay is unique and this game stands out amongst many other current casual game releases. When starting the game you choose between six different characters – each with their own personality and storyline. As you travel you receive missions, and you can buy and sell goods at the various locations for extra cash.

There is a good tutorial for those starting out, and there are plenty of descriptions available to learn about the different buildings and items. There is nothing worse than feeling lost due to lack of information but Sandlot Games have made sure players get full enjoyment.

Each town has its own setup, and there are lots of different buildings to visit depending on your needs.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an adventure without a challenge, and there are nasty bandits and monsters which need to be defeated. You have to keep your army stocked with fighters and ammo or else your only option will be to flee in disgrace. However, the fighting is simple, there is really only one button to click to make the battle unfold, and it would have been nice to see a bit of strategy involved.

When your warriors are low on health it is possible to heal them for a small price, and if they die you can simply purchase some more.

The story and commentary are witty and well thought out, and they certainly bring the story to life. Sandlot Games are known for their high quality games with a splash of humour, and the Tradewinds Caravans fits this description perfectly.
