how to make earrings - ocean breeze

Make your own in 12 simple steps

With summer fast approaching, create your very own pair of earrings in beautiful summer colours in 12 easy steps!

You will need

1 pair round nose pliers
1 pair side cutter pliers
2 x French earring ear wires
4 x 6mm beads (we used faceted fire polished Czech glass)
2 x 8mm beads (we used blue Czech glass beads)
4 x 60mm eye pins
2 x 40mm headpins

For beautifully coloured beads. Tools can be bought online or at a hardware store such as Bunnings or Mitre 10.

Step 1

Thread a green bead onto an eye pin.

Step 2

Using your pliers bend the wire to a 90 degree angle from the bead. Try and make this bend tight, you should not be able to move the bead up and down once the bend is made.

Step 3

Using your side cutters cut the pin about 8mm from the bead.

Step 4

Using your round nose pliers, hold the bead with your dominant hand and the end of the pin with your pliers, slowly turn the wire with your pliers away from you in a circular motion up and over the bead. Do not shut the loop.

Step 5

Repeat steps 1-4 on all your other beads. Replace an eye pin with a headpin for two of the green beads.

Step 6

Take the headpin threaded green bead, and hook the loop into the eye pin of the blue bead.

Step 7

Slowly turn the loop on your green bead in a circle until it is fully closed.

Step 8

Repeat this step with all the beads, until eventually you have two strands of three beads.

Step 9

Take one ear wire and using your pliers; lift the loop so that it opens slightly. Do not move the loop to the side as you will lose the round shape.

Step 10

Hook the beaded strands onto the open loop.

Step 11

Close the loop.

Step 12

Repeat Steps 9-12 on the other hook. Check your earrings are identical in length. They may need slight adjusting.

Congratulations! You have now created your very own earrings! With practice these earrings can be made easily whenever you need some fabulous jewelry for a new outfit or a present for a dear friend. Have fun trying different bead combinations with different colours and enjoy a whole new wardrobe of earrings!
