|Interview: Illicit Eve |

B&L: How did Illicit Eve get started?

Illicit Eve: Em and Fliss became friends whilst playing in an all girl band in their late teens. They decided to take it more seriously so they split from that group and formed Illicit Eve.

B&L: Where did the name Illicit Eve come from?

Illicit Eve: We like to think of it as a big illicit night out! Like New Year’s Eve, except on any other random night… But lot’s of people make links to Adam and Eve, so our illicit eve is more of a crazy rock version of Eve.

B&L: How would you describe the music scene in Adelaide?

Illicit Eve: We have many loyal supporters who continue to come to gig after gig, and there is some great music coming out of S.A at the moment, so it’s going strong.

B&L: How would describe your music style?

Illicit Eve: It’s a blend of all out rock with power pop melodies, soaring harmonies and punchy vocals.

B&L: Do you ever get nervous before a performance?

Illicit Eve: Not really anymore. We have done a lot of performances so we are pretty confident up there these days… but if we are playing some new material it’s sometimes nerve-racking wondering whether the fans will dig the new songs or not.

B&L: Who are your favourite bands?

Illicit Eve: The Killers, Muse, Fleetwood Mac, Interpol, System of a Down, Incubus, Tool, Perfect Circle, Blondie,The Mars Volta, Divinyls, Silverchair, The Police, Veruca Salt,Crowded House, Eurythmics, Heart… we could go on for a while here so we might just stop there!

B&L: Was it hard adjusting to a new drummer?

Illicit Eve: Well yes and no. There seems to be a member in every band that is constantly changing, and for us it seems to be the drummer! We are up to number three now, so we are used to it.

B&L: How did you feel the first time you heard your music on the radio?

Illicit Eve: Nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time.

B&L: Have you always wanted to be in a band?

Illicit Eve: Ever since we picked up guitars, YES!!

B&L: Where do you most love to play and why?

Illicit Eve: Our most enjoyable gig was most definitely at the Republic Bar in Hobart, Tasmania last year. We played two nights straight, and the crowds were awesome, so enthusiastic, and it’s a great original music venue too!

B&L: How does a live show compare to recording in a studio?

Illicit Eve: A live show is a lot gutsier and energetic. In the studio you aren’t being watched so you just chill out and try to focus on what you are creating.

B&L: What’s next for Illicit Eve?

Illicit Eve: At the moment another album is in the works, and next year we plan to migrate to Melbourne and do some international touring.
