|Hair Q & A |

Recently we asked our readers to submit questions to be answered by an expert hairdresser, thank you to everyone who responded.

Expert: Luke Boffa, Salon Only

I have long straight hair that just hangs there, I would like to cut it into a "style", what is fashionable at the moment and what works well for dead straight hair?

The prefect style for this type of hair is the GRADUATED BOB. It can be shaped to suit any face shape. The length can vary from just below the hairline to short and, by adding different length and shape to the fringe, it will suit anybody. By using the right styling products like Salon Only (SO) Root Lift, your hair can easily have lift, texture and movement.

I have blonde hair and would like to temporarily go red; if I use a semi will it fade completely? What is the process?

Any type of colour, even colour conditioner in blonde hair, will stain to some degree. Just like white fabric it will fade but you will always have some of the colour left in the hair. The only way to remove the colour stain is with a colour reducer or lightener. So if you put any type of colour into blonde hair be prepared to keep it for a while, or for a fair process to get back to your blonde locks.

What are the hottest celebrity hairstyles right now? Are these achievable at home?

Healthy shiny hair with controlled movement is the look around Tinsel Town right now. The best way to get Hollywood hair at home is to start with the right type of Shampoo and
Conditioner, then do a treatment using a product such as SO Oil Blend + SO Protein Spray.

Lock it in with the SO Mask and this will get your hair primed for good health. For styling, start with SO Moisturiser followed by SO Heat and Style to give your hair heat protection. Then you can add SO Super Shine or SO Gloss Blow Dry in by using two or more SO ceramic brushes. For best results, leave a brush in and let your hair cool on it as you go. This will give your hair body, shine and movement like a star.

I am about to have a baby and would like a low maintenance hairstyle, any suggestions? My hair is slightly wavy and quite manageable.

If your hair is long enough to tie back then this can be an easy and effective way to get it out of the way when you have a new baby. But if your hair is shorter, then a loose layered bob with shape around the front will be a great shape to have.

Also remember that the right products will make your hair easier to manage including the right shampoo and conditioner plus a quick simple treatment like SO Colour Lock Leave-In Treatment, which when you use it replaces the need to use a conditioner. Some styling product will help keep it in shape. Some women may also experience some hair loss after the birth for around six months or more.

Is there any way to repair split ends? How can I prevent them in future?

The only way to “fix” split ends permanently is to cut them off. There are two great ways of maintaining your hair to keep them at bay.

1. Use a product like SO End Repair which helps keep split ends at bay
2. Have the ends of your hair trimmed every two months. Your hair will be healthier and grow quicker.
