The first thing you should know about Dash & Will is that they are a duo of 18-year-old singer/songwriters from Melbourne. They’re real names are Charlotte Thorpe [Dash] and Josie De
Sousa-Reay [Will].
What you need to know now is that Dash & Will are finally ready to release their debut single, Pick You Up, through Mercury Records Australia.
Pick You Up is a euphoric slice of sweet and indie pop rock that will have everyone jumping around, shaking their hair and singing along in no time.
Pick You Up is the appetiser for Dash & Will’s debut album Up In Something, due for release in September.
This month we asked Dash and Will some questions:

B&L: Where does the name Dash and Will come from?
D&W: Dash and Will are the names we would have been called had we been born boys! Charlie would have been Dasher, and Josie would have been William.
B&L: How would you describe your music?
D&W: It's fresh, energetic, youthful edgy pop. You hear a lot of harmonies and a lot of personality!
B&L: You must spend a lot of time together, do you have many arguments?
D&W: Yes! When you're away together for a while, you tend to fight over the most ridiculous things! But, it's pretty normal for that happen.
B&L: What has it been like recording your first album?
D&W: It's been awesome! As well as hectic and interesting! We went straight from exams into the studio, then out on tour, so it's been full on. It has been amazing though, watching a song you wrote years ago grow from a home demo to a proper recording!
We have awesome people coming in and out of the studio a lot too, so recording is like hanging out and drinking with friends whilst creating something you love.
B&L: Who are your music inspirations?
D&W: We love Hole, the Kooks, the Strokes, Madonna, Blondie, Elvis, the Pretenders, The Beatles... it’s endless!
B&L: Do you get nervous before performing?
D&W: A little bit! Which we like, 'cause it keeps us on our toes! We've never been nervous enough that it hinders our performance; we have too much fun up there!
B&L: How do you like to spend your spare time?
D&W: At the moment, there isn’t a whole lot of it! So, when the chance arises, we like to bum around at home, drink insane amounts of tea, and sometimes go away up the coast... Or catch up with all the friends we don't see while we're away.
B&L: What has been the most exciting band moment so far?
D&W: We just came off the Rock The Schools tour; which was incredible. We played to around 700 kids on average every day and they were the best audience we've come across so far!
They were so enthusiastic! You could clap your hands in the air, and then suddenly 700 kids would be clapping with you! Overall, every day was a great experience for us as a band.
B&L: What's next for Dash and Will?
D&W: Lots of touring! Our single is in stores July 12 which is exciting!
And our album will come out in September. We're hoping that we'll be going along to a few festivals this year and just having ridiculous amounts of fun!
B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?
D&W: At the moment, we feel we are part of a new age of female musicians who are coming up to take on the world with their music! |
