interview: charlotte sometimes |

Charlotte Sometimes is truly one of a kind; we love her not only for her music, but for her cute and quirky personality.
It is hard to pinpoint her music style, as she likes to mix a range of genres. If you have never heard of Charlotte Sometimes, you are missing out… and this month we decided we needed to know more about this interesting lady:
B&L: How would you describe your music?
Charlotte: It's so many different genres... but it's mostly pop-folk songs mixed with jazzy vocals and beats... (laughs) I guess I didn't really narrow it down, did I?
B&L: Your song "How I could Kill a Man" is based on the Cypress Hill rap version, how did you make it your own?
Charlotte: I just kept the catchphrase and wrote my story, what I could relate to around it.

B&L: Where do you get your music inspiration?
Charlotte: From everything! Living in the city is such an inspiration; there are so many stories, and so many ways to lead your life.
You were adopted, how has this affected you as a musician?
Charlotte: I don't necessarily think it has... it's just apart of my roots. It's who I am and I respect that.
B&L: Was it difficult growing up?
Charlotte: I think it's hard not to know where you came from when you're a child. But it only made me stronger and value that I was unique. I never wanted to be like anyone else. I've always just wanted to be me.
B&L: What do you love most about touring?
Charlotte: Meeting fans! The ones who drive hours just to hear your songs and say I inspire them. It's really amazing. I met these two girls in foster care and one of them said, "You were adopted? Is it great? I haven't been adopted yet, but I feel good about it."
Those two girls came to my show and broke my heart. I started crying backstage, because they were so excited to be there and I felt like I had to do more. It was a really heartfelt and beautiful encounter.
B&L: What's one thing we wouldn't know about you?
Charlotte: Hmm... I have no secrets, but maybe that I am super paranoid and hard on myself!

B&L: What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
Charlotte: Meeting Lifehouse! Omigod! Omigod! Omigod!
B&L: How would you describe your fashion style?
Charlotte: Sassy, 50s/60s throwback, mixed with modern comfort.
B&L: How do you like to spend your days off?
Charlotte: SLEEPING....coffee....gym...shopping...wine with the girls!
B&L: What is your single "Sweet Valium High" all about?
Charlotte: It's funny; I didn't think anyone would ever have the balls to ask me about this... so awesome!
I was putting myself in a negative relationship at the time, and in my head I felt he had cheated on me and put this controlling spell over me. I felt manipulated and used and this was my break free from him song. It's about the power struggle and how I needed, and wanted to win the game.
B&L: What's next for Charlotte Sometimes?
Charlotte: I am starting a tour with Eric Hutchinson next week!
B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?
Charlotte: Independence, confidence, embracing your sexuality, standing up for yourself and maturity. I have a few of those things down... I'll let you know when you can call me an actual woman... for now, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" (laughs)!!
