Sam and Max: Abe Lincoln must die was my first introduction into the Sam and Max story. A bit of searching led me to feel quite out of the loop. Sam and Max are a team who solve mysteries- new episodes (or ‘games’) are released frequently allowing the most avid game player new and interesting ways to waste away the hours and stretch the hours.

The Sam and Max games are set like a TV detective show, the opening credits roll and then we get a panicked phone call telling us the problem. It’s then up to the user to solve it.

With great graphics, Sam and Max is a breath of fresh air in the downloadable games community. A detailed eye is needed as you speak and look at as many items and people as possible in order to work out how to proceed further in the game.

I won’t lie- I did do a bit of a search for hints which led me to complete the game quite quickly, but you’ll have a lot of fun working out exactly how to access special rooms and putting together the mental puzzles.

The new episode is full of Max’s sadistic humour, Sam’s calm demeanor (and big feet) and the odd Broadway performance. I loved figuring out the game and getting a little thrill every time I was able to get to the next part.

Sam is the stalwart of the game with his detective skills the ones worth paying attention too- Max is the stereotypical sidekick that is able to go flying if he gets in Sam’s way.

The game can be played with or without sound- but speakers are defiantly recommended for extra kick to the oddball humour this episode produces.
